Park History
The park land was purchased in 1988 and named after William Rivers, a Shawnigan Lake pioneer who settled in the property adjacent to the park in the 1890’s. “Challenge Grant” students, under the direction of the CVRD staff, created parking and picnic areas adjacent to Shawnigan Creek, which traverses the Northwest corner of the park. Rip Rap was installed in 1993 to protect the stream’s bank. Landscaping also took place in 1993.
