Turn lights off and choose EnergyStar Certified bulbs for better energy savings. LEDs last up to 10 times longer than CFLs and do not contain mercury. Switching to sustainable HID bulbs can keep tonnes of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
Switching to LED lights saves on electricity but replacing them on environmental grounds results in a need to dispose of half a dozen strands and bulbs that are still in working order. Give these lights to a family or friend, or donate lighting in original packaging to charity.
LightRecycleoffers a recycling program for these items. CVRD Recycling Centres and other participating facilities can be found on the map above.
