Be Bear Aware

A fed bear is a dead bear. Garbage was the cause of more than 50% of calls made to Conservation Officers about bears between 2010 and 2013.

Keep recycling & garbage in a secure area like a garage or shed until pick-up day, or secure cans and totes to your house so bears can't drag them away. If totes can't be kept in a secure area, freeze smelly items and don't place them out until pick-up day. Keep cans and totes clean and wash food off of all recyclables.

Bear-proof locking kits can be added to garbage totes for a $60 fee.Call the Recycling Hotline to request a kit.
