[ARCHIVED] Lake to Lake Walk and Marathon

Lake to Lake Walk and Marathon

Lake Cowichan, BC – While a marathon can be challenging, organizers of the Lake to Lake Walk and Marathon hope having the route make its way through beautiful scenery will inspire participants.

On Saturday, September 9, this 43 km walk/run will begin at West Shawnigan Lake Park. The route will showcase parts of the Cowichan Valley Trail including the Kinsol Trestle. It will continue through the Trans Canada Trail corridor over the Marie Canyon Trestle at Skutz Falls through the Cowichan River Provincial Park to Canada’s most western terminus, finishing at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. This cross country walk/run on variable terrain is in celebration of Canada’s 150th and Trans Canada Trail’s 25th anniversaries.

“We are excited to pull the communities together and showcase one of the Cowichan Valley’s most precious treasures while benefiting a large number of charities,” explains Chair Jon Lefebure. “This will be a great event for residents and visitors.”

Like the Great Lake Walk (2003 – 2012) whose participants donated over $800,000 for different charities, organizers are encouraging people to walk or run for the charity of their choice.

There will be seven rest stops along the route sponsored by local groups and businesses and staffed by volunteers. The registration fee will provide participants with food and drink; washroom facilities; first aid; as well as enthusiasm and support along the way. To ensure their safety, there will also be trail rovers on bicycles riding the trail checking on participants.

Walkers and runners can download registration forms and information at www.cvrd.bc.ca/LaketoLakeWalk. Hard copies of the registration form are available at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, 311 South Shore Road, Lake Cowichan; Kerry Park Recreation Centre, 1035 Shawnigan Mill Bay Road, Mill Bay; and Shawnigan Lake Recreation Centre at 2804 Shawnigan Lake Road in Shawigan Lake.
