Utility Fee Changes

Fees have increased to help cover rising operating costs such as fuel and waste disposal. This is the first time curbside collection fees have been increased since 2012. The amount of the fee increase ranges from $5 to $12 depending on the service you receive.

A letter was sent to all curbside collection customers with this year’s bill explaining the change. If you did not receive a letter or have questions, Recycling Hotline staff will be happy to assist you.

The curbside collection program provides stable, efficient and cost-effective service. Rate increases are carefully considered and only implemented when required in order to keep up with rising operating costs. Meanwhile, the CVRD continues to seek out ways to reduce waste, helping to keep costs low for everyone. The new Solid Waste Management Plan amendment includes 13 strategies to help the region reduce waste, including a plan for universal curbside collection of recycling, organics and garbage. Providing all residents with convenient access to curbside recycling programs will help to reduce the amount of food waste and other compostables that are shipped to landfill, currently more than 30% of our region’s waste.
