[ARCHIVED] Storm Preparedness Encouraged for this Weekend: Oct. 29 – Oct. 30

October 28, 2022

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for parts of Vancouver Island that affects the Cowichan region. Moderate to heavy rain and strong winds are expected Saturday and Sunday as an atmospheric river moves through the area.

To prepare for conditions and the possibility of high water and localized flooding, check for updates on radio, websites, and sign up for Cowichan Alert: https://alertable.ca/signup/?site=Cowichan

As a precautionary measure, sandbags and sand will be available at the Bing’s Creek Facility (3900 Drinkwater Road, Duncan) outside the gate for residential use. Parking at cones.

Residents will need to bring their own shovels, none are available on site.

Be prepared and have an emergency kit ready as local power disruptions caused by strong winds can occur.
