Bear Aware - Wildlife Attractant Management Tips

Bear Aware - Spring 2024

The CVRD is bear country- do your part to keep wildlife wild and our community safe!

How we manage our living space has a great deal of influence on the type and amount of human-wildlife interactions we experience!

 Manage attractants at home by:

Keeping your garbage in a secure area such as a garage or shed until after 5 am on the morning of collection; do not leave your tote out overnight. If you do not have a proper storage space:

- Make sure that recyclables are clean and free of any food residue

- Store any smelly items in a bag in the freezer and put it in your tote the morning of collection

Cleaning barbeques after each use by emptying grease traps and burning off leftover food with high heat

Using electric fencing to protect chickens, beehives, livestock and fruit-bearing shrubs and trees
