BURN BAN

OPEN BURNING BAN in effect until April 15 due to respiratory concerns from COVID-19. No category 2 or 3 fires allowed in high sensitivity smoke zones.

All category 2 and 3 open burning is banned until April 15. Burning yard waste creates harmful smoke. More people will experience respiratory issues with COVID-19. You can support healthy lungs and hearts by dropping yard waste free of charge at a CVRD Recycling Centre. The benefits of doing this:

  • Reduces the impacts of COVID19 on you and the community
  • Reduces your summer fire risk
  • Gives you physical activity while maintaining social distance

Air is a precious resource that many of us take for granted. Air supplies us with oxygen, which is essential for our bodies to live. Adults take about 20,000 breaths per day. Children breathe almost twice that amount because they are smaller and their respiratory systems are still maturing. Check your local air quality by clicking on the Air Quality Map icon.
